Elder Abuse in Diverse Communities:
Asians and Pacific Islanders (API)

Did you know?

  • The term "Asian" or "Asian Pacific Islander" encompasses a very diverse group of people, with over 20 different sub-groups (e.g. Japanese, Chinese, Filipino)
  • Culture can be a source of protective and risk factors for API elders. It affects how they perceive abuse and seek help and so should also affect how professionals engage, assess, and intervene with them.
